SOUL-CENTERED, ATTACHMENT-FOCUSED SOMATIC PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR INDIVIDUALS & COUPLES
VERMONT • CALIFORNIA
Welcome, I’m Alexis Lowenstein
A safe place to come home to yourself.
I believe healing happens when we are met with presence, compassion, and genuine connection.
Whether you're struggling in your relationship, feeling disconnected from yourself, or simply sensing that more is possible, therapy offers an opportunity to slow down and listen more deeply.
Together we'll explore the patterns that have shaped your experience, honor the wisdom they once held, and create space for something new to emerge.
Therapy that honors both science and spiritHealing happens when insight meets experience. A cognitive understanding only goes so far without a new felt experience in the here and now.
My approach integrates attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and mindfulness-based practices to help you understand not just why you feel stuck, but how to create lasting change.
Together we'll explore the patterns that once helped you survive, but may now be standing in the way of the life and relationships you long for.

Frequently Asked Questions

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of my clients are thoughtful, self-aware people who simply know that something isn't working the way they'd like it to. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, relationship challenges, self-doubt, or a sense of feeling stuck, therapy can offer support, insight, and a path forward. That being said, many of my clients do come to me in a moment of reckoning when things feel precarious and like they’re falling apart. A healing crisis is a perfect time to start our work together and understand, together, how this just might be the crack that lets more light through.

My work integrates nearly 25 years of clinical experience with specialized training in attachment theory, mindfulness, somatic and parts-work approaches. More specifically, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Attachment-focused EMDR and IFS. What the research shows us is that meaningful and lasting change happens through a combination of insight and felt experience in the here and now. And of course what enables the success of any technique or approach is the safety and fit of the therapeutic container.

Many of my clients come to me after working with other therapists. Sometimes therapy provides understanding but doesn't create the deeper shifts people are longing for. Together, we'll work experientially to uncover the patterns beneath your struggles and create new ways of relating to yourself and others.

Insight is important, but insight alone doesn't always create change. Many of my clients have spent years learning about themselves through books, podcasts, spiritual practices, and previous therapy. Yet they still find themselves repeating familiar patterns. Lasting transformation often requires more than understanding. It requires new experiences of safety, connection, and healing that can be felt in the body, not just understood in the mind.

Somatic psychotherapy, or body-centered talk therapy, is a bottom-up therapeutic approach where the body leads the way. It differs from top-down cognitive approaches that emphasize the thinking processes as the doorway to meaningful change. Rather than relying solely on traditional talk therapy or trying to logically explain a problem, somatic therapy guides clients to experience their present-moment reality and bodily sensations in real-time. This process helps us to become more conscious of implicit memories, or blueprints, that inform our habitual strategies and action tendencies. Through following these physical sensations we are able to access underlying unconscious beliefs and have new and healing experiences of ourselves and others.
Somatic psychotherapy aims to support nervous system regulation, using body-based interventions to widen the window of tolerance enabling us to more effectively manage emotions, think clearly, and respond rationally to everyday stress without becoming overwhelmed or shutting down.
I bring all of who I am to my work with my clients, supporting them to bring all of who they are to themselves and to the world.
